Pilgrimage - 2D Motion Tracking Experiment
Pilgrimage was a proof of concept for a technique I wanted to develop. Having seen 3D motion tracking used in big budget films, I wanted to know if a similar technique could be applied to 2D characters. Underneath the animation (below) is the source footage I filmed to gain the tracking data for my character. Tracking markers were placed on all the joints of my actor (Dan), so that corresponding segments of my 2D character could then be attached to them. The cape and bag were both animated using Motion Boutiques Newton plugin, and were driven completely by the movement of the character.
